We are thrilled to share the news that Dr. Genevieve Filion will be joining the team at Shoreline Animal Hospital in March. We could not have asked for a more perfect fit for the practice and we are confident that our clients and patients will love her as much as we do! With 20 years of experience, excellent standard of care, and a kind and gentle touch, Dr. Filion will be a very welcome addition to our Shoreline family. Here is Dr. Filion’s letter of introduction, and we can’t wait for you all to meet her in person!
Dear Friends,
My name is Dr. Genevieve Filion, and I am very excited to be joining the Shoreline Animal Hospital family!
Since I was a little girl, I always loved animals, and especially had an affection for cats. I still remember my first cat “Grisette”, she was a stray that I found under a pine tree in my family’s backyard. It took me one week to convince my parents to allow me to let her in the house, but once my mother agreed the rest was history. When I moved out of my parent’s house to go to Veterinary School, I did not last a week without a pet. I adopted my first very own cat from the school shelter, a tuxedo cat named “Mitaine”!
I grew up in a suburb of Quebec City, Canada, so you may detect my French-Canadian accent! I attended veterinary school at the University of Montreal, and graduated in 2000. Although I grew up in the suburbs, I chose to start my veterinary career as a large animal veterinarian. After graduation I started a veterinary internship in the large animal service at Cornell University. Working with cows, horses, sheep, goats, and an occasional pig or alpaca was a challenging adventure! After my internship I practiced for 5 years in a variety of farm animal and small animal practices in upstate New York.
I was fortunate to settle in beautiful Killingworth in 2007 with my now husband, and for the past 14 years have been practicing on the shoreline of Connecticut. I have 2 boys, Alexandre (11) and Maxime (9), both currently attending Haddam-Killingworth Intermediate School. We also share our home with 2 cats: 18 year old Soleil and 14 year old Teddy. Alex and Max are also the proud owners of 2 rescue guinea pigs Coco and Marshmallow. We sadly said goodbye to our beloved 15-year-old dog Shamrock this past summer, but the whole family is looking forward to welcoming a new puppy in 2021. In my free time I enjoy cooking, baking, hiking in our beautiful local parks, skiing, spending time with my family at our family camp in the Adirondacks, and visiting my family in Canada.
I have enjoyed working as a veterinarian for the past 20 years. I love veterinary medicine, it keeps me on my toes, every day is different and full of surprises. Over the years I have developed an interest in surgery, wellness, and preventative care, but my absolute favorite is Dentistry, it is so rewarding to help my patients keep a healthy mouth and prolong their quality of life.
I am looking forward to working with Dr. West, Dr. Berman, and Dr. Perry. While getting to know them and their veterinary team, I quickly realized that we share the same philosophies and practice the same standards of veterinary medicine. They will be great teammates as I start this new chapter in my career. I cannot wait to meet you and get to know your families and fur babies.
